Raku Fired Pots

About This Collection
In the summer of 2025 I took a raku workshop at The Penland School of Craft. Raku is an ancient Japanese firing technique that involves removing the pot from the kiln at about 1,800 degrees and immediately applying combustibles, such sawdust and horse hair, to its hot surface. The rapid reaction between the searing pottery and the materials creates unpredictable yet stunning effects. The spontaneity and uniqueness of each surface design are what thrill me about raku firing.
Here are a couple videos of the process! Filmed at Penland.
